Shipping information

Most customers ask us to ship orders at the Best Time for Spring Potato Planting based on our 50-State Chart.

However, we do ship our Seed Potatoes 52 Weeks/Year, whenever you want them.  We harvest our crop of Organic Maine Certified Seed Potatoes in September. We begin shipping this New Crop by November 1 (sometimes earlier) and continue shipping from our on-farm underground Potato Storage, every week through the Winter & Spring & Summer until October 31.

All new potato tubers grown anywhere must go through a Dormancy Period after harvest before tubers will sprout and grow. This dormancy lasts 4-8 weeks. For planting after December 1, the dormancy concern becomes a non-issue because our Seed Potatoes will have completed their rest period and will sprout and grow when warmed up to room temperature.

Note: Orders which include 45 pound carton(s) of Certified Seed Potatoes and shipped after mid-November and prior to the week of March 24 or between July 1 and September 30 customarily require a $16.00 insulated box fee. If insulated packaging should not be necessary, you will receive a shipping refund automatically. Feel free to call (207) 429-9765 (M-F 8:00-5:00pm ET) for a Rate Quote.

Will Bonsall and his extensive seed-saving Scatterseed Project are well-respected icons across rural Maine and beyond. This new book of Will's will be a welcome addition to your library and is certain to be thoroughly enjoyed by readers. The risk of describing Will Bonsall's Essential Guide to Radical, Self-Reliant Gardening as a gardening book is that the aspiring reader may miss the reality that it is really a book on life, centered as a good life should be, around a garden. Will is a patient teacher with encyclopedic knowledge. His writing style is warm and authentic, accentuated by his dry New England humor. To read this book is akin to having Will stop by and visit by the glowing kitchen cookstove. He shares a lifetime of observations and conclusions – both useful and essential – and a deep respect for those who have come before us. Softcover. 385 pages, 10" x 8", color photographs.
