Keeping Out Unwelcome Guests.

In this photo, Peter is making use of some extra pallet rack beams we bought for a song at a farm auction years back. This was the first of two mobile entry huts he built that will upgrade security for entering our two Screenhouses. The Screenhouses are covered with fine Aphid-excluding netting which prevents entry by Aphids who could otherwise vector Potato Virus to our early generation tissue-cultured Organic Maine Certified Seed Potatoes. After the welding phase, Peter went on to attach plywood, twin doors and metal roofing to each hut. All this fuss has been an effort to outsmart a tiny bug one can barely see.

Years ago, both Peter and his younger brother Caleb were active in the Central Aroostook High School Future Farmers of America (FFA) chapter. During his Senior year, Peter outcompeted his rivals and actually won Maine's statewide FFA Welding contest. Reminding us all once again that the best education comes when practical skills are taught early on and balanced with book learning.
