Another Busy Spring Week Boxing Up Seed Orders.
In this photo, Peter (l.) and Lindsay work at boxing up a boatload of Spring orders of our Organic Maine Certified Seed Potatoes, plus other organic seed and fertilizer, headed to home and market gardeners located in all 50 States. Whether it's due to the arrival of warm, sunny Spring days - or ongoing world and economic uncertainty - we've been experiencing strong Spring demand for organic seed. Thankfully, we enjoyed a plentiful harvest last Fall with a high-quality Potato crop and our supplies remain good.
More and more gardeners are figuring out that Potatoes are much more than simply a Spring-planted crop. What's most common is planting a SECOND Fall Potato crop, in addition to that traditional Spring crop. Fall planting is practical and allows gardeners TWO distinct harvest sessions. Long a popular practice in the South, planting a second Fall Potato crop in August provides a bountiful harvest before Thanksgiving. But what is less widely known is that even gardeners across the Mid-States and in the North may produce a second Fall Potato crop by choosing Short Season varieties which will size up tubers before frosty Fall weather descends. What's more, gardeners who reside in locations with mild Winters, such as along the Gulf or California coasts, may successfully plant into September and October and look forward to a late Winter/early Spring harvest of delicious New Potatoes.
We can attest that Fall planting works even up here in cold Northern Maine! Our on-going experimental plantings are teaching us that reliable Fall Potato harvests can come from planting in July or even into early August. Not only will you enjoy a fresh crop of New Potatoes, but one additional and remarkable benefit we're observing is that Fall Potato crops experience drastically reduced insect pest pressure. We believe expanding your Potato planting horizons is something you will want to try.
And remember, we ship our Organic Seed Potatoes direct-to-you 52 weeks per year, whenever you need them. We'll continue shipping our current 2025-crop Organic Seed Potatoes out of refrigerated storage right through October. So if you want to try out a second Potato planting this year, we've always got you covered. Order today and just tell us the week you'd like us to ship!
