Andrew Lichtenstein. 'This Short Life:' Photo Journalism As Resistance and Concern.
This article posted on 'Lenscratch' is a review of the new book by photojournalist Andrew Lichtenstein. Andrew, a native of New York City, visited our farm during our Potato Harvest of 2018 and took a large number of photographs as we worked. He was interested in interviewing Jim because of his involvement as president of the national 'Organic Seed Growers and Trade Assn' in the David and Goliath landmark 2011 'OSGATA et al. v. Monsanto' federal lawsuit challenge against Monsanto's dubious transgenic plant patents. Andrew's chapter on our farm includes an introduction, seven photographs - counting this one of Jim at his messy farmer desk - and a wide-ranging transcript of a recording of Jim in which he backgrounds the farm, the lawsuit, Monsanto gangster traits and a sketch of Organic history.
Excerpt from the 'Lenscratch' article: "To those who enjoy learning about other people’s lives and who are open to introspection This Short Life, a new photo book by Andrew Lichtenstein and published by Jet Age Books, offers a transformative view of American Life...Lichtenstein selected 12 Americans to profile in-depth as representatives of the true diversity of the country."
