A pretty potato to grow
I am only giving this potato a 4 rating because it ranked the lowest out of the 15 varieties for germination. All 15 varieties were started and planted using the exact same methods and we had a 47% germination failure rate with this potato for some reason. My guess is that this particular potato just didn't have as many eyes as other varieties, but I did not count eyes on any of the seed potatoes I planted (I'll collect that data next season, maybe). However, the reason I still rank this potato a 4 is because it is a very pretty potato and even with the 47% germination failure, it still ranked in my top 5 potato varieties in pounds/plant yield (along with Yukon Gold, Cranberry Red and Island Sunshine). The Elba also ranked in the top 5 of the 15 varieties planted that was not preferred by the Colorado Potato Beetle. So all things considered, I will be planting the Elba next season.
