Our seed potatoes are harvested around the first of October each year and are available to ship to you at that time in the smaller bag sizes. After Harvest, potato tubers must go through a dormancy period before they will sprout and grow. This dormancy will last 4-10 weeks. For planting after December 1, the dormancy concern is a non-issue because our potatoes have completed their rest period here and will easily sprout and grow when warmed to room temperature. 20 and 50 pound bags are shipped starting November 1st, to allow for the skins to thicken sufficiently to be cleaned on our brushing equipment.

I planted a 6' square bed with Red,White and Blue potatoes. We have been harvesting since July 4th. Stayed ahead of the beetles handpicking and this is the best potato group I have ever planted in 25 years. The Red Norlands didn't flower but damn we had 3" reds so early. The Blues have been outstanding. I've harvested a few King Harry's but am holding off until they reach a good baking size. I hilled them once but didn't really have enough soil (the bed is raised)to hill again so we heavily mulched with straw and covered with wire fence to keep the chickens from scraping off the mulch. When I do harvest I am astounded by the number of earth worms in the bed and the quality of the potatoes. The Norlands were most bothered by beetles but not so much that handpicking several time a day couldn't keep up and the King Harry's were hardly bothered by the beetles at all. I am very pleased by your product and your politics. My husband has a picture of himself and Jeffery Smith taken 20 years ago. We had a NO GMO sign on our front lawn 20 years ago. No one even knew what a GMO was. I am so pleased to do business with your wonderful farm and will continue to order my seed potatoes from you. I love the beautiful postcards. Floods & too much rain have been the story here for a while, but even when all my other seed rotted (first too wet, then freezing, then too wet again) in the ground and Mother Nature's children chomped everything up, the Blues came through! Very reliable & very tasty!

Our order arrived with many, many eyes which allowed us to plant much more hills from our 2.5 pound bag than we originally had planned. The All Blue produced the most potatoes from one plant of the 15 varieties that we tried from Wood Prairie Farm. The size of the potatoes averaged between the size of a golf ball and a billiard ball though, but that may be due to our heat down in Virginia, or it may need more composted manure than we thought (we received constant rain this year in our part of Virginia). We will add more composted manure to these hills next year to see if it increases the pound/plant yield. It is hard to believe that there can be so much difference in the taste of potatoes, but what everyone says about the flavor of the All Blue is true. The All Blue is my 10-year old aspiring Chef's favorite because of the color and the taste of the skin and meat. Of the 15 varieties we planted, the All Blue was one of the Colorado Potato Bug's favorite. Definitely worth trying in your garden or field and we will be planting All Blue again next year.

I purchased my All Blues for the first time from Wood Prairie Farm last season. These blues were far bigger and bluer than the others I have had in other years. They keep exceptionally well and taste wonderful. I make sure I have a row every year of these and the Cranberry Reds.

In southern tier, upstate NY, I get lots of medium-size beautiful, nicely shaped, longish pure-purple potatoes from this seed every year - keeps very well & has a wonderful "potato" flavor!
