Seed Potatoes: After Harvest, potato tubers must go through a dormancy period before they will sprout and grow. This dormancy will last 4-10 weeks. For planting after December 1, the dormancy concern is a non-issue because our potatoes have completed their rest period here and will easily sprout and grow when warmed to room temperature.
Dark Red Norland potatoes are delicious. Red skinned potato with firm white flesh. Good for boiling, frying and baking.

Excellent!

I ordered 20 lbs each of the Red Norland and the Carola seed last year. We planted them in four 4x16 foot raised beds that had just been filled with mushroom compost. The Norlands took off and grew faster than the Carolas. They also produced a 20% larger yield (at least). The individual potatoes were much larger on average than the Carolas, too. I canned a lot of them and the canned potatoes were excellent for frying but turned to mush when used for anything else. The Reds didn't keep as long as the Carolas. They started sprouting in late December but the Carolas still look good and I'm still putting them up in the freezer, dehydrating them and getting them canned. But these Norland Reds were absolutely beautiful and delicious and better than any I've ever seen in the farmers markets around here.
