About Us
Directions: Take Interstate Route 95 from southern Maine to its end in Houlton. At the end of the exit ramp, make a left onto State Route 1 before you go into Canada. Go north 22 miles or so until you get to Bridgewater. Descend down the hill towards town and just prior to the Bridgewater Baptist Church take the left called Bootfoot Road. (If you get to the Bridgewater Post Office you have come too far). It curves past the Bridgewater Grammar School then goes due west for 3 miles. It ends in a T at which point you should turn left. The Safe Seed Pledge "Agriculture and seeds provide the basis upon which our lives depend. We must protect this foundation as a safe and genetically stable source for future generations. For the benefit of all famers, gardeners and comsumers who want an alternative, we pledge that we do not knowingly buy or sell genetically engineered seeds or plants. The mechanical transfer of genetic material outside of natural reproductive meethods and between genera, families or kingdoms, poses great biological risks as well as economical, political, and cultural threats. We feel that genetically engineered varieties have been insufficiently tested prior to public release. More research and testing is necessary to further assess the potential risks of genetically engineered seeds. Further, we wish to support agricultural progress that leads to healthier soils, genetically diverse agricultural ecosystems and ultimately people and communities." WoodPrairie Farm joins over 100 seed companies in signing this pledge. To obtain a complete listing, call 617-868-0870 or visit The Council for Responsible Genetics List. |
